This year’s pavilion at the Serpentine in London’s Hyde Park – a brief construction – is the work of Ai Wei Wei and architects Herzog and de Meuron. A disc of shallow water sits above a dark underworld of cork-faced levels and columns. Champagne cork seats multiply like mushrooms in the gloom, the disc of water reflects the trees and sky. Figures pass beneath like foraging beetles.
